Italians still in front

VIP IMS 600 WORLD CHAPIONSHIPS - Italians still in front
CRES, CROATIA-(16-9-2004) Two windward/leeward races were held in Valun bay on the Day 4. of VIP IMS 600 World Championship. In the first race (third overall), with steady wind of 20-25 knots, sailboat MAN (skipper Matteo Ivaldi) was fastest again, Roberto Fararese was in second, and native Darko Hajdinjak on „Karuba“ third. Second race (fourth overall) brought excellent second place for our crew. „We had an excellent start in both races and were first after initial turn. At the end we are satisfied. Even tough we are still in third place, second place is well within our reach.“ – positively states Karuba’s skipper Darko Hajdinjak.

After four races completed (two offshore and two windward/leeward) in overall rankings leads Matteo Ivaldi on MAN, Roberto Ferrarese is second on Igienstudio Schauli and Darko Hajdinjak on Karuba.

There will be a Fashion show and VIP Sailor’s party for sailors and guests tonight. Since there will be no discards according to IMS 600 rules, sailors will have to manage their strengths wisely between tonight’s party and two tomorrow’s windward/leeward races …

FIRST RACE
In the opening race MAN was 47 seconds ahead of Igienstudio Schaula (skipper Roberto Ferrarese) and 64 seconds ahead of Karuba skipper (Darko Hajdinjak) Karuba had the best start. After the first turn, superior features of Italian boat and crew proficiency took over, forming an advantage that could not be reached by the opposition.

DRUGI PLOV
Karuba took an early lead in the second race as well, but MAN took lead after the turn and kept it all the way to the finish. With corrected time Ivaldi was solely 33 seconds faster than Hajdinjak, Third place went to Austrian boat “Equinoxe 2” – skipper Rene Mangold. Boat Igienstudio Schaula skipper Robert Ferrarese had a poor start spoiling its odds in this race….
